Delve into the wondrous realm of machine quilting on silk! With the use of dupioni silk the familiar wholecloth quilt is transformed from elegant to extraordinary! Discussions and demonstrations will highlight the specific qualities associated with this exquisite material and the unique characteristics that silk presents in laundering, blocking and binding. Using stencils to mark the design, students will create their own wholecloth heirloom.

Learn a variety of background filler stitches to enhance your next quilting project! The first part of class will be practicing with pre- printed patterns to help guide you in creating designs to add variety and interest to the quilted surface. Then work will begin on a Stitching Sampler to showcase your new skills!

Beginning Machine Quilting

This class is an introduction to basic machine quilting skills and is designed for the beginner with little or no machine quilting experience. Information, tips and techniques are also provided for the machine quilter seeking to improve their machine quilting skills. This class is designed to give the quilter the information and skills necessary to successfully quilt a project by machine. Students work on a small sample piece (constructed prior to class) and learn how to mark and adjust a design using stencils, to stitch in the ditch, free motion and stipple quilt. Tips are given on fabric choices, batting, marking tools and various types of thread to help quilt every project successfully. Class ends with a Show and Tell of quilts to help inspire and encourage quilters to continue on their own and help answer that eternal question, "How do I quilt as desired?!"

Discover the artist within with this introduction to decorative threads and freemotion embroidery. Working with freemotion quilting, practice will begin on small pre-printed stitching designs using a variety of weights and types of threads. Students will begin working on a small underwater scene that will highlight their new creativity!

Whole Cloth Quilt 

Learn to draft an original feathered design and to enhance the quilted surface by using trapunto to add dimension and texture. Essential quilting techniques will be covered including tips for working with pre-cut stencils, discovering
sources for design, progressing beyond the stipple stitch with different freemotion filler motifs and methods for basting, blocking and binding. Emphasis will be on helping the individual improve their
machine quilting expertise.

Discover how to embellish the edges of fused appliqué motifs using programmed decorative machine stitches. Tips and tricks for selecting threads and needles included.

This easy take-along hand project is designed to teach the basics of English Paper Piecing. Quickly stitch up these functional coasters inspired by traditional wheel blocks.

Sharps And Curves

 

Learn how Elizabeth has combined foundation piecing and appliqué to construct traditional curved pieced blocks. Sharp, sharp points and smooth curves are the result with this process.

Adding Dimension to Your Quilting 

 

Master the modern machine method of adding depth and texture to the quilted surface. The timeless technique of trapunto is easily achieved using water-soluble basting thread and an extra layer of batting. Students will work on a small project in class to create their own trapunto treasure.

Invisible Appliqué By Machine 

 

Let the machine do the work for you! Easily accomplish appliqué accurately and precisely using the blind-hand or zigzag stitch on your sewing machine. Using monofilament thread, the appliqué stitches are nearly invisible and replicate the appearance of hand appliqué stitched in a fraction of the time.
